Angry Anderson of Rose Tattoo once sung (and still does, I presume) ‘Nice Boys Don’t Play Rock ‘N’ Roll’. Well, actually, they do, as German band Hard Riot is obviously a bunch of very nice boys attempting to play the good old r’n’r. They’ve got the chord sequence down; they studied the moves and pose, like the civil engineers they are. There’s even a half-mean solo to be found here and there. But where’s the spit, the gasoline, the danger, the soul? Well, not on this record, I can tell you. Yes, there’s a dash of AC/DC to the left and a whiff of Status Quo to the right but it’s all rather watered down with banana milkshake and fresh lemonade. ‘Living On A Fast Lane’ but going nowhere fast, boys… ( KVK)

I have to disagree with KVK's assessment of the Hard Riot disc. While yes, these German boys play their kinda rock with some niceties thrown in, tracks like Hellfire Rock, Get Ready, Black Widow and Rock N Roll Outlaw (there's that Rose Tattoo thing again...which this song isn't a cover of...) a kickin' some ass and takin' some names. I know, this kinda rock needs a bit of the nasty attitude, and a track like No Surrender might be too shiny for the rest of us dirtbags...I assure you, I have heard much worse than Hard Riot. I like it, own it and stand by it.
