I read somewhere that SBB (formerly known as Silesian Blues Band and also Szukaj - Burz - Buduj) was one of the most important Polish progrock bands of the seventies. Call me ignorant but how many Polish progrock bands were there in the seventies? Thought so…
Anyway, this band enjoys some following with that crazy prog-crowd. And rightfully so. Although I didn’t hear from them before I did some research – yes, some of us actually conduct in some hefty research before commenting on something – and I have to say that this band is in my opinion on the right side of the prog-balance. The band, actually one man and his revolving door-principle, knows no boundaries concerning songwriting. The music ranges from rock over fusion to jazz and back. Think Pink Floyd meeting the Mahavishnu Orchestra on a rainy day with way too much LSD at hand. Also, on this record the singing is not really singing but more vocalizing, or something. Think of a one-man-I Muvrini, if that even means something.
But I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed SBB’s effort. The experience lasted almost the full 80 minutes and I haven’t been bored once. I wasn’t molesting the furniture either but somehow I don’t think that was the purpose of this record. For seekers of added-value! (
