It’s always something with those attached biographies, isn’t it? Most of the time the – ranging from hollow to thundering – adjectives add nothing to the look and feel of a certain band. Or, as is the case with The Burning Crows, it adds nothing because it is nothing. Where are these dudes from? How long are they in the business? Any previous releases? Whatever… give me something to work with, lads. What we do get is the usual namedropping, this here EP is produced and mixed by Nick Brine, known for his work with The Darkness (he built a studio with Dan Hawkins of The Darkness, of course and Stone Gods), Bruce Springsteen & Oasis, amongst several others. And Keith Weir must be bored out of his mind because it’s the second time that I encounter Quireboys’ keyboard-wizard in a short period of time, the first time would be Shotgun Express’ latest.
But I have to say that the boys of The Burning Crows released a more than decent effort with ‘Never Had It So Good’. The platter kicks of bumping and grinding with first single ‘Slow Up Get Down’ and never lets off. The choruses are instantly shout-able and the songs as a whole are just great. A little sleaze, a little blues, a lot of melody and one can hear echoes of Little Angels, Thunder and more of the finer British rock-outfits of back in the day. One can be worse off, I say. (
