Phonotraxx Publishing is a new German label, founded by Bernhard Weiss and Harry Oellers from Axxis. The label’s first two albums were released on May 4: Dawn Of Destiny’s “Praying To The World” (a mix of death, gothic and thrash metal) and Mercury Falling’s “Into The Void”, which seems to be the band’s third offering. I have to admit that MF’s mix of power and progressive metal sounds quite good indeed. Influenced by classic metal bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica and more progressive metallers like Dream Theater and Symphony X, the five guys of Mercury Falling have found their own niche with powerful and sometimes catchy tunes. I can’t compare the new material with that of their former albums “Panta Rhei” (2003) and “Human Nature” (2006), but I’m quite sure that they have grown since their early days. So, if a mix of power and progressive metal is doing it for you, don’t forget to check out “Into The Void” as it is surely worthy of your attention. (CL)
