Although Westcoast music doesn’t come in the first place for me, I can enjoy listening to such an album from time to time. What we have here, is the debut album of Swedish duo State Cows, which consists of vocalist / guitarist Daniel Andersson and bassist / keyboardist Stefan Olofsson. Both musicians hail from the university city of Umeå, which is also known as a home for Westcoast devotees. Famous musicians like Bill Champlin, Jay Graydon and Marc Jordan have all played there. It was in this creative environment that Andersson and Olofsson – both being students at the Piteå School of Music – started playing together, first in a Beatles tribute band (called The Posers), then on a solo album of Andersson (“Days In L.A.”) and after that in a Steely Dan tribute band (called 2nd Arrangement). It was that last named band that led to the foundation of State Cows. The songwriting and the recording of the self-titled debut album lasted for about two years, which proves that the guys have put a lot of energy into it. Recorded with the help of carefully chosen guest musicians from the Swedish and the Finnish music scene, “State Cows” is an album that can be recommended to the fans of acts like the aforementioned Marc Jordan and Steely Dan. In other words: it’s rather poppy westcoast stuff, primarily to be played on the quieter moments of the day, like in warm summer evenings. (CL)

WC album of the year. Nice one. Bravo!

Amazing album with as smooth as silk songs that really does nail that classic westcoast sound a la Toto etc.

The first thing that strikes you about this album is that, yet again, our Swedish cousins have nailed the pure Westcoast sound down to a tee and they sound more American than a very American thing - Pure Westcoast Nirvana (errr...maybe not Nirvana, you'll get the wrong idea)) is what's on show here and quite brilliant it is in places. Superbly played, lovely warm production and everything on here that a westcoast fan could want in 50 odd minutes. If Airplay, Steeley Dan and smooth Westcoast in general is your thing, then this is a must check out disc and probably THE best Avenue Of Allies label has put it's name to so far. Lovely stuff
