What brought vocalist Michael Hayes and guitarist Rob Luv together halfway the 80s, was their passion for music. Both musicians had a dayjob, but it was their hobby – Strike Twice – that truly got their blood pumping, even though they experienced a lot of difficulties in their search for suitable, additional musicians. Quite by accident they met bass player Chaz Domino in a New York club and it seemed that he, drummer Randi Price and guitarist Trixx were seeking a vocalist. One rehearsal later Strike Twice was a five-piece and the street-smart guys quickly began to write sleazy, punchy, high-energy songs. Many hours were then spent in the rehearsal room, which turned the band into a well-oiled mean machine. Image was very important for them and they also put a lot of effort into the choreography of their shows. More and more people attended their shows and their fan base grew immensely, especially in the female department. The highlight of every show came right before they were about to play the song “Undress Me”. The band members stripped and played the song, carrying nothing else than there instruments. It paid off, because they won the ‘Good Times Award’ for best band in the Tri-State area in 1991. Unfortunately it didn’t path the way to a (major) record deal! They came close a couple of times, but it was once again the rise of grunge that dealt them the final blow. By 1993 Strike Twice was no more … If there wasn’t a label like Eonian Records, we would probably never have been able to listen to the music from a band like Strike Twice. Compared with the material from Felony (released at the same time), I prefer Strike Twice anytime. I like their streetwise attitude and their kind of sleazy melodic rock more. Just listen to tracks like opener “Tuff Luck”, the above-mentioned “Undress Me”, “Tango” and/or “D.F.W.M.” and you’ll agree with me that this band had a lot of potential. In May of last year the band returned to the scene, so there might even be a future for this band after all those (lost) years … ( CL)

Some good time sleaze rock from the U.S. Wow, thought Sweden had cornered the market on this type of thing but with Dirty Penny and now Strike Twice, there might be some hope left for us Yanks yet!
