Portland, Oregon based Echo Us is a project led by Ethan Matthews, who wrote, produced & played practically everything on this record. "The Tide Decides" is the follow-up to Echo Us's debut from 2005 and it's a concept album. The result is part Yes/Vangelis, but also Patrick O'Hearn/Azuma which means a nifty combination of progressive rock & new age landscapes. Due to the addition of a harpist & a viola player this whole affair is somewhat of an acquired taste but never ceased to amaze me with each spin.. Time after time this quite mysterious album revealed more of its secrets to me until it got me covered in melancholy, hope & pure amazement. Only a special album can evoke such feelings. (
