What we have here is a unique crossover project from the international renowned author Kevin J. Anderson with ProgRock Records. “Terra Incognita” is indeed a novel (“Terra Incognita: The Edge Of The World”) as well as an epic/progressive rock album (“Terra Incognita: Beyond The Horizon”). Lyrics are provided by Anderson and his wife, Rebecca Moesta, while Erik Norlander signed for the music and the production. Knowing what a professional this keyboard wizard is, you may rest assured that this is a real quality product. What makes it a complete success, is the ‘cast’ of musicians, including the vocalists James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Michael Sadler (ex-Saga), Lana Lane (wife of Norlander) and – last but not least – John Payne (Asia feat. John Payne).
Since I got this masterpiece, it hasn’t left my CD player. Not only the storyline is interesting (everything can be followed in the 16-page booklet), the same can be said from the music, which has been recorded at various studios between June 2008 and March 2009. And what to think of the players? Among them are guitarist Gary Wehrkamp of Shadow Gallery, bassist Kurt Barabas of Amaran’s Plight, drummer Chris Quirarte of Prymary, violinist David Ragsdale of Kansas and flutist Martin Orford of IQ. I know that looks impressive on paper (or on your screen), but believe me when I say that it is as impressive when you hear them play together on this album. Don’t ask me to point out the best tracks, because this is the kind of album you have to listen to as a whole, preferably with headphones on and with the booklet within handreach. Stop reading and order your copy immediately. I’m sure you won’t regret it! (CL)

USDHEAD (on 9/08/09)

A blinder of an album, and a wonderful set of performances from all concerned. Undoubtedly this will remain one of the progressive rock highlights of the year.

STEELER (on 4/07/09)

A very familiar sound (Ayreon's flight of the migrator?) anyway, fantastic concept album, lana's voice and erick's keys are a trade mark. I really recommend this album.

WOLF 359 (on 1/07/09)

Top five for this year, some superb performances and excellent songs a definite must have.
Word of caution if you get the book, it's part one of a trilogy and most of the charachters on the album only appear every hundred pages or so.
Still it's a good read and it might mean we get a part two and three to this album.

Everything Gary Wherkamp touches turms to gold it seems. But let's not forget the other members of the cast.
And James Labrie is fantastic, too bad he doesn't sing more tracks. Great album!!

A real good concept album with a great cast of musicians !
One of the best , if not the best record with E.NORLANDER involved as PRODUCER/MAIN COMPOSER !
James LaBRIE & John PAYNE are both outsanding !
Kurt BARABAS is very impressive in the instrumental song "the sinking of the Luminara" VERY RECOMMENDED
