How I love records like this! I had never heard of this band before, their promo package came with no biography & initially there was not a lot of stamina to even start listening to this silver platter.
But a couple of minutes into the whole affair I was swept of my feet like I was face to face with Jessica Alba asking to marry me & have my children with some serious practice up front. Or something of that nature...
These guys from New Jersey call themselves a power pop prog band. A mouthful, I know, but not very far from the truth and they have come up with a slightly deceiving album. A little like Rush's "Snakes & Arrows": songs between 3 & 6 minutes with at first feel rather simple structures. But don't be fooled, this is a progressive rockband in more ways than one. And don't you just love it when your newly acquired proggy record is just that little bit unpredictable? That special harmonic chord sequence that comes around the corner when you least expect it or singer Dobbs whispering when a scream is in order and the other way around. I love it!
The band started out in 1990, released their debut 'Human Interest Story' in 1996 & called it quits not more than one year later. But good men can't be kept down forever so here we have the glorious reunion of the (maybe not for long) noble unknowns 3rdegree. And they still had an album up their sleeves that made it all worth it. Don't make us wait another decade, gents. (KVK)
