As the title of this album suggests, this is the third volume in a series of progrock compilations that were/are conceived by the producers Randy George and Gene Crout. CPR stands for Christian Progressive Rock (artists) and the purpose of the CPR series can be described in two ways: expanding the knowledge of progrock into the Christian community and increasing Christian themes within the progrock community.
I can’t say anything about the first two volumes, but this third one has some beautiful songs to offer. A reworked and extended version of Phil Keaggy’s “Passport”, which originally appeared on his 1985 album “Getting Closer”, has to draw the attention, but there is so much more to discover here. Not a single track disappoints me, but the best three on offer are Apple Pie’s “Solution” (bronze medal), Ted Leonard’s “The Name Of God” (silver medal) and – last but not least – Everlasting Arms’ “The Mirror”, which deserves the gold medal, not because it is the longest track on offer, but because it’s the most adventurous of them all. If you want to learn more about the ten featured bands on this album, feel free to visit the CPR website, of which you can find the URL on the left-hand column). (
