The fact that we haven’t heard from this Spanish heavy metal band before is simple. Prior to this new platter, they have released two albums – “El Legado” and “El Lado Oscuro” – that were sung in their native Spanish!
So, “The Dark Side” is DarkSun’s first album with English lyrics and it shows a talented band holding the middle between epic and progressive metal. Daniel González sings quite well and his English only suffers from a light Spanish accent. Having released two albums with Northwind and another two with DarkSun, the band shows a certain maturity, which is translated in good quality songs with more than enough emphasis on the melody lines. DarkSun collaborated with Rage on their “Speak Of The Dead” album and in return for that, Peavy Wagner now appears as a guest vocalist on the song “Prisoners Of Fate”, which is one of the better tracks on offer. The price for best track goes to “Elegy”, that consists of three interesting parts and shows what this six-piece band is capable of. Check it out! (CL)
