A lot has happened to Sun Caged since the release of their well-accepted self-titled debut album a little less than four years ago. Gone are four band members and the only one who actually remained, is founder-guitarist Marcel Coenen. He assembled four new band members, with whom he recorded “Artemisia” (a metaphorical place) between April and December of last year.
The good news is that this radical change of line-up didn’t affect the original kind of progressive metal these Dutchmen are serving us up. If you’re familiar with the material of Sun Caged, you know what to expect: long songs of an almost epic nature, featuring enough odd time signatures and complex chord sequences to keep you satisfied for quite a long time. All new band members are doing quite well, but I’d like to point out specifically the vocal performance of NY born Paul Adrian Villarreal. Although he replaced the excellent André Vuurboom (which wasn’t an easy thing to do), his voice really appeals to me and what’s more … he wrote the lyrics for all the songs, which makes him a real asset for the band.
If you’re searching for an original progressive metal album with lots of things to discover and getting better each time you fork some time out to listen to it, then search no further, as this “Artemisia” will fulfil even your wildest dreams. A grower … (CL)

Pegas (on 17/04/07)

This album is not easy listening, so you must listen fully concentrated. Boring for first listen, better with every next spin of CD. Now I think it's great.

The prog fight back has started , aor and melodic rock has been coming out thick and fast since the start of the year and now the prog act's are finally starting to release quality stuff .
For proof look no father than A Fair Trade a wonderful piece of music and atrack of 2007 for me . If you love prog with guitars then this should be right up your alley .
