AOR & melodic (hard) rock

Big Cock is a new outfit centred around Robert Mason (Silent Witness, Lynch Mob) and David Henzerling (King Kobra) and if you like your rock rude, crude and with the kind of swagger that made rock ’n roll in the ’80’s so much fun then sit up and take notice!
The band describes their music is a combination of the best of ’80’s glam, ’70’s glitter rock and modern rock aggression but I say forget the latter and go for the first and to a much lesser extent the second. The album clocks in at a “mere” 34 minutes and 39 seconds but contains nothing but straight up, bad ass rock ’n roll.
Opening cut “Bad Motherfucker” immediately sets the tone for the rest of the album with its mid-tempo, highly infectious groove and when mister Mason growls “It Ain’t Easy Being A Bad Motherfucker” you know he ain’t kiddin’. Another thing that struck me when I gave this album a second listen is that the guitar playing of David is never flashy but always tasty and within the musical frame work of the song .
“I Want It All” picks up the pace a bit and is the kind of track that will have the crowd punching their fists when played in a live situation. “Cinnamon” and “King Of Cool” continue the momentum with the latter having a definite Lynch Mob feel while “Carrie’s In Love” sees the guys taking a walk down power ballad avenue. Up next are 2 King Kobra chestnuts (the big riffed “Mean Street Machine” and “Take It Off”) and both can stand proudly next to the originals. Especially “Take It Off” that has an irresistible, sensual groove and an amazing vocal delivery by mister Mason.
Pounding drums and a pumping bass line are the main ingredients of “Dynamite”. Cut from an entirely different cloth is “Hard To Swallow” that at first hearing comes across as a sweet ballad but nothing is further removed from the truth. Pay very close attention to the lyrics to discover what it’s really about.
Moving on to the last part of the CD we have “Old No. 7” (a tribute to every true rock ‘n roller’s favourite drink), the sleaze of “You Suck The Love Out Of Me” and the album’s title track “Year Of The Cock” (a mid tempo stomper).
With their first release Big Cock deliver (with their tongues firmly in cheek) 12 tracks (you really can’t call “Thank You, Good Night” a genuine song) that pack a mighty fine punch. Highly recommended. (PS)

Anyway, BC = real good hardrock ála Bullet Boys w/ good vocals. But just a little too groovy for me.

Good new band... they sound a lot like the Bulletboys to me. Very punchy, kick ass sleezey rock...without a lot of shredding. Nothing groundbreaking, but good for what it is...partying rock. Mason's vocals sound real good in this type of stuff.
