Coming after 2003's "Reason And Truth", "The Divine Cage" is Italian power metal band Concept's second effort. No changes to the line-up have taken place, which means the band could fully concentrate on the development of their sound and technical abilities. That's also why I expected this album to surpass its predecessor in all aspects.
The recipe is the same as on their debut album: mid-paced to fast power metal songs with a certain degree of progressive elements, connected by a lyrical concept (hence the band's name). But while I was quite happy with how the band's debut album turned out, I have my doubts about this one. Vocalist Gianni Carcione's high-pitched and accent-full voice bored me from minute one this time and I have the feeling Concept try too hard to sound like Lab˙rinth in their heyday. Instrumentally, there are some good ideas on "The Divine Cage" though. Especially the use of piano combined with the obligatory and numerous riffs makes a couple of cuts - "Don't Let Me Die" and "Changeover" - earn the title of best tracks.
After a promising debut, I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of progress this band have made. There are a lot better Italian power and progressive metal acts to be found. Just think of Vision Divine and Mind Key a.o. and you'll know we're definitely talking about a lower league here. (

I think this one is better as Stijn is saying , but I agree with him that there debut album was slightly better . Concept is definitely not a top class band of the melodic progressive metal genre , but if you listen to this album carefully you will hear that this band has got some potential to become one in the future . A good one , nothing more , nothing less .
