Due to the fact that yours truly and his faithful photographer were on more than one occasion too late to see one or more support acts perform, we arrived at De Verlichte Geest at 19 p.m. sharp on this particular occasion. But of course the first concert didn’t blast off until way past 20 p.m. which gave us time to contemplate about Jack Daniels in beer glasses, bar games & loose women.

After an hour of this nonsense we were in the right mood to witness Rakel Traxx from the South Of France mount the stage and kick their set into gear. And boy were they firin’ on all six! They came out kicking and screaming and kept it up the whole concert! I have to say that when PS told me before the gig that they sounded like a French version of Pretty Boy Floyd it only made my anticipation grow stronger. Little did I know that what the French glamsters had in store for Roeselare was a good ass-kicking combined with one of the best shows I have seen so far this year in this neat little place called De Verlichte Geest. The boys of Rakel Traxx have a mighty fine album ‘Bitches Palace’ under their belt and they played almost everything of it (including “Quicksand”, “Give Me Your Love” and “Together”). The crowd ate it, loved it and spat it out in rowdy chants. And that’s the way we like it.

So by the time Swedish foursome Sister took the stage everyone was properly warmed up. And luckily so, because from the word go the punky glamsters put the pedal to the metal and kept it floored for the next hour. Almost everything they ever recorded was in their set list, including top songs like ‘Hated’ – title track from the excellent 2011 album of the same name - , ‘Too Bad For You’ and ‘Body Blow’. The show was rough, intense, loud and not for pussies. The Swedes bowed out with a speedy version of Hanoi Rocks’ ‘Malibu Beach’. Short, definitely not sweet but excellent nonetheless.

Strange how in editing a point can get lost. ;o)
Original sentence, for good measure --> I have to tell, when the wacky photographer told me before the gig that they sounded like a French version of Pretty Boy Floyd I couldn’t be less forward-looking to that particular gig.
And it sounds better too. :D
