What device(s) do you use to listen to your music?
I used to listen to my music primarily on my home stereo system, with CD player, cassette and turntable, and a CD player in the automobile. With the advent of high-capacity digital players I find that the stereo and car CD player get much less use, and that my 16gb Sony Walkman NWZ-S545 is used for the majority of my listening now, either patched into the car stereo, a portable stereo, headphones or through its own tiny speakers.
It's like a dream to be able to carry the majority of my collection on a device as small as a Walkman... what a marvel! A convenience that was unimaginable, as little as a decade ago...
I still use my desktop computer, running either Windows Media Player or Media Monkey software, fed into my home stereo, when I'm in my little "music room", and the stereo is still used to convert cassette and vinyl into .wma digital files.
So, what do you use to listen to your music these days?

I only listen to my music on my home stereo system !!! Not in the car (radio there) or not on a discman or so . . . ! I'm going for a great sound, and that sound is by far the best on my home stereo system !!! The other possibilities don't come even close IMO ! You only have the full, rich sound and greatness from our music on a great home stereo system.

I don't even have a home stereo system. I have an Android phone, car CD player and a PC. That's all I need.

I can see this is going to polarise the RR forum members!
I used to love listening to CDs in the car (it had a x6 CD changer) and the sound system was fantastic. However, I have not owned a car since October 2008 when a "kind" person drove into me, and killed my vehicle!
I do listen to some CDs on the computer, but really only for the purpose of reminding me about certain sections for the purpose of reviewing these - so give a final listen as I am word processing my thoughts.
I do not have an i-Pod (or similar device) and much prefer to listen to music in its full glory (loudly) on my stereo system, where I can give my full and undivided attention: particularly to an album not previously listened to. I do have some high quality headphones, but try not to spend too much time with those on - though they do help to highlight the nuances in the recorded material.
It is good to spend time away from music too. This helps to refresh and renew my desire to hear more...

It's very rare that I will listen to a CD. I will mostly play my Ipod Nano or play music through my computer speakers whilst I'm searching for porn!

I listen mainly on my computer to music, as this is the place I spend most of my days. If I'm up and about then I listen on one of my iPods. Or my vintage cassette-player in my car.
I have to admit that the first thing I do when I buy new albums is ripping them to iTunes and practically never look at the CD again. I do have a USB-recordplayer for my vinyl, though!

Like KVK i always rip my CD's into Itunes and then copy to my IPhone and Ipods.
I use the Iphone and Ipods for music listening when I'm at work or while I do my training (running or weight lifting).
On my way to work I always listen to a CD in my Car stereo.
At home most music is played on the PC with my headphones on, so I don't disturb my wife while she's watching TV.
However I still prefer to listen to my CD's on my home stereo.

I wake up in the morning with the stereo on while I'm ripping stuff to my MP3 player for work...on the way to work I listen to CD's in the car...then take out the MP3 player...after work it's back in the car CD and them home to the stereo or sometimes the PC if I'm busy doing something.
When I walk I take the MP3 player...so basically I use whatever I can at the time.
But nothing beats cranking the home stereo system that we actually play through when we jam...it's loud and powerful...good thing I'm stuck in the basement...my wife can't stand loud music...it's a match made in Heaven.

I use anything I can to listen to music. MP3 player, home stereo (which I prefer), PC etc, etc. Although I do find my mp3 a boon and because of this little device I can keep listening to what I'm going to review wherever I am.
I think it also comes down to courtesy, I would if possible play everything loudly with no complaints on my part, though family and neighbours would I'm sure not be happy with this situation.

My "used to" list are long, and these days it's very changed.
I never thought that would happen, but even I feel a CD to be a bit plastic & work to play. Strange enough, being the album man I am. I prefer full albums, or at least did. I think I still do. But to play them & listen to them as I used to, is another story. Life's too short, things change. Better to live with the changes than to live in the past.
Turntables, cassette decks, walkman etc., even mp3 player are now the past. I only listen to music on my computer. That means that I'm perfectly happy with the 320 bitrate rip of a CD. My ears find that to be good enough, and lossless rip isn't an option. Too big files, not enough disc space. The good ol' CD player are mainly used when having people over for a "party". Always a riot in the CD vaults. And great fun. And yeah, In my gf's car of course.
I never use headphones anymore. I don't feel comfortable with it now. I need to hear my surroundings and it's happenings.
I never, ever, listen to the radio. I just hate that. Silly talkin' & totally ruined by commercials. I haven't listened to a radio in... at least 10 years or so?
I'm really thinking about selling most of my CDs, but I can't do so without great loss of money, or by great effort (such as ebay) - and it probably won't happen. They'll be thrown away when I'm gone. My grown up kids never had a CD player. That's the way this world are moving. Can't change the changes. Sadly. Sort of. Can't blame the kids for dl'ing their music, free or not.
Short version (for Steel Jockey & those with a phobia of lots of words - I don't know if there is a name for such a phobia, but hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is the fear of long words. Priceless name and way beyond funny!):
I listen to my music (using my ears, good answer shawn!), from dusk till dawn, on my PC using Winamp. Loud enough. Funny how life changes. Nah, drop the "funny".

Vinyl & CD - I don't have time for little devices that can erase the files or downloads (not referred to as music these days??) before you know it. Big hi-fi - hi end turntable for the vinyl and solid player for CD. I wanna move some air!! I go to concerts for the music and that's through BIG speakers, not everyone plugging in their tiny earpieces.

I used to spend a lot of pasta on high end CD Players as HARMAN KARDON or DENON stuff...But i found myself always buyin' new one every year ,because i kill all of them very quickly...The best i ever own...The most reliable is the MARANTZ CD 5004: it never ever skip and it's really cheap...Recommended Powered by HK 970 thru 3 way B&W...
BOOMBOX by JVC at work and Good old DISCMAN+Monster hphs for travels...But i still hate headphones and ipod/Mp3 compressed files...Not for me...The real stuff or nothin' at all

USDHEAD - We'll have to work on it - At a given time I'll stick my head out of my window and get the old ear trumpet ready! Actually I would like some new speakers as I'm running Mission 751s on Alphason stands. Not huge speakers but they pack a wallop and sound great. But I want some floorstanders not sure Mrs. C would approve though......or the rest of the street

My Maudaunt Short speakers would rip the concrete off a block of apartments at eight paces, Nick and there's no longer a Mrs USDHead to worry about.
However, the neighbours would certainly complain on my street of executive properties!!
Perhaps we will just have to imagine doing that, eh?
